Akademgorodok
Akademgorodok is unique in its location in the center of a beautiful birch and pine forest and on the shore of the Ob Sea, a man-made reservoir on the great Siberian river Ob. The town's population currently stands at over 100 000. 40 research institutes are located within Akademgorodok. There are Novosibirsk State University (NSU), Agricultural Academy, Medical Academy, housing blocks and cottages as well as a variety of community amenities including stores, hotels, hospitals, restaurants and cafes, cinemas, clubs and libraries. Climate
The average air temperature range is between +10 - +18C but sometimes it can be rather cold. Guests are kindly suggested to have some warm clothes like sweaters and jackets. Sunshine largely predominates, but rain may occur.

Local Novosibirsk time differs from Greenwich Mean Time +6 hours (Moscow Time +3 hours).
Currency and banking
There are a lot banks, branches of banks and cash dispensers in Akademgorodok.
Please note that all services (hotel, meals, etc.) in Russia can be paid Russian rubles only. 24-h-ATM operating with VISA, MasterCard and Maestro card allow cash withdrawals in Russian rubles according to the Bank of Russia exchange rate. You can exchange US dollars or Euros in cash for Russian roubles in the hotel "Zolotaya Dolina" and in any local bank. Personal cheques are not accepted.
Shops
There are a lot 24-hour supermarkets. Some shops are open from 9.00 am or 10.00 am to 7.00 pm for a whole week.
Electricity
220 volts, 50 Hz. Two pin round plugs and sockets are the same as in Continental countries of the European Union.
The Siberian Branch, an overview
Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was established in 1957. The initiative originated from Mikhail Lavrentyev, Sergei Sobolev and Sergei Khristianovich. Mikhail Lavrentyev became its founding chairman. The Siberian Branch incorporates the organizations of the Russian Academy of Science located in Siberia.
The organizations within the Siberian branch include fundamental and applied research institutions and production facilities of the Russian Academy of Sciences and service departments that support the infrastructure of research centers established in multiple locations all over the territory of Siberia.
Research centers are established in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Yakutsk, Ulan-Ude, Kemerovo, Tyumen, and Omsk, individual research institutions are located in Barnaul, Chita, and Kyzyl. The Siberian Branch encompasses 74 research institutions and 13 design bureaus working in different areas of physical, mathematical, chemical, and biological sciences, Earth sciences, humanities and economical science (see the searchable database). The central location of the Siberian Branch is Akademgorodok, Novosibirsk.
